For most women in perimenopause and menopause, the biggest body change is the belly. It changes everything!
The clothes you used to wear suddenly don’t fit or don’t look good anymore, leaving you confused about what to wear now!
There is no doubt that our clothing needs change as we hit this midlife stage. Here are my top 5 flattering styles that will help you look fabulous even if you are having a bloated day.
1. Shape your waist. This does not mean tight. You just need clothes that give you a waist even if your waist seems to have gone incognito. A-line shape dresses are great for this. They create a sense of shape without having to wear something tight that clings in all the wrong places.
2. Belt your waist the right way. Most women who think that belting doesn’t work for them are not belting correctly. You need to place the bottom of the belt above your natural waist. Wearing the belt higher than your natural waist gives the illusion that you have one. Wearing it too low down is going to place focus on your belly and make your whole body look wider. See the video for a demonstration.
3. Wear a magic blouse or something similar. I have a blouse in my collection that my clients have named ‘The Magic Blouse’ because it truly works like magic. It ties in the front cinching the waist, giving you a deep v-neckline and the ties work to disguise the belly. Plus, it disguises your upper arms. Like I say… magic. If you have something similar in your closet, get it out and put it into your regular outfit rotation. You can wear it any item in your wardrobe that needs a little extra shape. See the video to see how this blouse works.
4. Prints disguise. I know, many stylist are telling us to wear smaller prints or not at all as we age. I completely disagree. Wearing the right-shaped garment in a print does wonders to disguise the parts you don’t love. Your belly included. In a solid color, you have to be concerned about the weight of the fabric, if it clings or not and the shape of the garment has to be perfect. In a print, you can get away with so much more!
5. Color block. If you want to wear something other than print, a vertical color block works wonders to disguise your belly because it draws the eye down the body instead of across. Bare in mind, the fabric and shape still has to be right so as not to cling in the wrong places and reveal panty lines. Color block is also a fun way of bringing color combinations to your wardrobe that you might not otherwise wear together.
