Wearing the right colors can elevate your look and your mood during perimenopause and menopause. In this live I show you how to find your best colors.
As we go through body changes, it is so tempting to just throw on black clothing in attempt to cover everything up. But wearing colors that suit your complexion can make you look younger and be just as slimming as black.
Here are some easy ways to bring color into your wardrobe.
- Start with colors you know look good on you. You know, that color that when you wear it, you always get compliments. Hold it close to your face. How does it make your undereye and your cheeks look? I bet you will find it brightens your whole complexion. It makes your cheeks look more rosy, your cheekbones more defined and your eyes pop. That’s the look we are going for.
- Now, take a color you want to try. Place it close to your face and compare it to the color you know works. If it has the same effect, you have a perfect color. But if it makes you look more pale or yellow, the circles under your eyes get darker, then it’s not your color.
If you still aren’t sure you can do this:
- Ask a trusted friend or family member. In fact if you have a teenager around, I’m sure will get an honest answer there.
- Start with two colors I know will work for you; cobalt and turquoise. I have been styling women for over 20 years and I have never met a woman who doesn’t look good in these two colors.
What do you wear these colors with?
You need to find your perfect neutrals. And before you think black goes with everything, black can be harsh on your complexion. Try other neutrals like navy, dark chocolate brown, charcoal gray, camel, white, ivory, maroon, olive green or even red. These are softer neutrals on your skin tone and won’t drain your face as much as black will. Do the same test to see what works for you.
What colors are you drawn to? Color has vibration (not to get too woo woo). So if you are drawn to a color, then you need to wear it. You just need to find the right shade of that color.
For example, if I am drawn to yellow, the bright yellows and pale yellows are very hard for me to wear, but I can wear a mustard yellow.
If there is a color you really want to wear, but it washes you out:
Wear it in a print combined with colors that are your best colors. One of my favorite dresses had bright yellow in the print, but it also the perfect red, purple and cobalt in it, so it off-set the yellow.
Wear it in an accessory. Wear the color in a bag or shoes. That way it isn’t close to your face, but it still brings you joy.
