Are you ready to say a big NO to looking and feeling frumpy?

Let’s be honest, when our bodies are going through all these crazy changes during perimenopause and menopause, it’s so easy just to surrender to the frump. Comfy clothes that seem to hide everything seem appealing. But can you feel comfortable and create a fun and funky look?

Yes! And I’m going to tell you and show you how.

  1. What makes you feel alive? Instead of focusing on the styles that no longer suit you, what styles can you wear that celebrate the body you have now? Could it be a volumous skirt, a bit of shimmer, a color that makes your complexion pop?
  2. You don’t have to be uncomfortable to look good. I am so over wearing uncomfortable clothes for the sake of style. You can wear clothes that give you shape in stretch fabrics that will make you feel like you are wearing your pajamas but not look like it.
  3. Choose styles that give you shape. Believe it or not, big baggy styles can actually make you look bigger and shorter than you are. Shape doesn’t mean tight, it just means you have some waist definition instead of wearing a big sack.

Here are some examples of shapely styles that will offer comfort and adapt to your changing body:

Wrap skirts: Now you do need wrap skirts that give you sufficient wrap so you don’t feel like you are going to lose your skirt every time you sit down. When it wraps sufficiently, it will also be adjustable to your changing shape. If you are having a bloated day, no problem, wrap it over a little less, when you love your abs, wrap it tighter.

Wrap dresses: Again a good wrap dress will wrap over sufficiently and it needs to have a fit and flare effect. Fitted in the waist and flair in the hem. Think a-line style. What I love about a good wrap dress is that you can wear it in various ways. For example, you can tie the ties loosely on the inside, put your arms through the sleeves and you can wear it as a duster. There are too many ways you can wear a good wrap dress for me to even explain, but the most important thing is that it can adapt with your body. Loose weight, gain weight, this dress will still be your go to.

Fitted vest: A fitted vest can change your life. It can nip you in the waist and give you shape, even when you feel like you are loosing your waist. Plus it gives some coverage around your middle. If your bra strap feels tight and is suddenly creating the ‘back fat’ look, the vest will cover that. Plus if you wear it open, it will draw the eye down the body away from across the body, de-emphasizing the tummy.

A-Line printed dresses: If you hadn’t guessed yet, I love a good dress. But there are some things to look for.

1.Does it give you shape, but still have some give? This is important as we need a little give to make it comfortable and adapt to our changing bodies. You want shape, but not super tight.

2.Dresses that shape your waist and flare at the hem are automatically flattering. The flare in the hem makes your midsection look narrow in comparison.

3.Can you belt it for a more nipped in effect? I am big fan of belting as it can de-emphasize your tummy and create a sense of a waist.

4.Print or solid color? I love print because print in the right shape is just easier to wear. No panty lines and if you are having a bloated day, no one will be the wiser. The print camouflages. If you are not a print girl, then you need to choose your fabrics carefully. I have found thick cotton stretch fabrics to be fantastic. They give good hold and are breathable, which helps when the hot moments come.
