Fun Ways to Dress to Disguise a Menopausal Belly

Fun Ways to Dress to Disguise a Menopausal Belly

Suddenly have a belly you didn’t have before and you don’t know how to dress it? Join me for this live as I share my tried and tested style tricks that will help you navigate your body changes with style. The TGNY Collection is designed to adapt to your changing body as you navigate perimenopause and menopause.

Dressing a perimenopausal and menopausal belly can be quite a challenge. However, I have some stylish hacks to help you conceal your belly while making you feel fabulous rather than dowdy.

My Favorite Perimenopause Fashion Tips:
It’s easy to fall into the trap of wearing frumpy clothes to hide your belly. Ironically, attempting to cover up can often make you appear larger overall. Yikes!

Instead, try these options:

A-Line Skirts made from stretch fabric: Stretchy materials greatly enhance comfort. They allow you to wear garments that have structure without feeling tight or constricting. Skirts that cinch at the waist and flare out at the hem are perfect. When the hem is the widest point, it creates the illusion of a narrower waist and belly.

The length of the skirt can significantly impact your overall appearance, particularly if you’re petite. Choose lengths above the knee if you like your knees, at the knee, just below the knee, or full length. Lengths that fall in between can be tricky. A great way to navigate this is to opt for asymmetrical hemlines or pair those in-between lengths with tall boots to create a sleek, elongated look.

A-Line Dresses: With a bit of extra room around the waist and belly: I’m not suggesting overly baggy styles. The dress should still maintain its shape, but it can easily be belted or worn as is.

These types of dresses can be lifesavers during body transitions. For added tummy camouflage, choose a printed dress. The patterns on shapely dresses work wonders to distract the eye, making it hard to distinguish between fabric and tummy. Give it a try; you’ll be pleasantly surprised

Ruched Dresses:

Fantastic for providing shape while offering some tummy concealment. However, choosing the right style is key.

The most flattering option features a fitted waist with a flared hem, allowing the ruching to do its magic. If the dress is too tight-fitting, like a pencil or bodycon style, the ruching may not be effective.

Bonus Perimenopause Fashion Tip:

Define your waist!
This is undoubtedly the MOST effective strategy. By defining your waist, you naturally draw attention away from your belly.

There are several methods to achieve this:

Opt for a wide belt placed high on your waist. This can work wonders, even creating the illusion of a waist if you feel like yours has diminished. Placement is key; wearing it too low can accentuate your belly, so ensure it’s positioned slightly higher than you might expect.

Choose tailored clothing that provides structure. You don’t need to wear overly tight outfits; just select pieces that enhance your shape.

Not keen on using a belt? Layer with fitted vests or jackets that cinch at the waist. Wearing them open will guide the eye down your body rather than across.
